an excellent cladding alternative to tropical hardwood
Kebony® is real wood with enhanced cell structure ideal for exterior applications that demand high
performance and refined good looks.
Developed in Norway, Kebony® is a Dually Modified™, eco-friendly, patented process that enhances the properties of durable softwood with a bio-based liquid. The process permanently alters the wood cell walls, giving it premium hardwood characteristics and a rich brown colour in two basic steps:
- Step 1: Active modification: the biobased liquid reacts with OH-groups present in wood and reduces the water sensitivity significantly. This reaction increases the durability of the wood.
- Step 2: Passive modification: the biobased liquid forms a polymer that is reinforcing the wood which contributes directly to the strength and hardness of the wood and gives the brown colour.
Kebony® is a highly durable, sustainable wood with the aesthetics and performance of the best tropical hardwoods. It requires minimum maintenance, brings low life cycle costs and is available in two grades, Clear and Character. In addition, Kebony® is resistant to rot, fungi and other wood destroying microorganisms and it is safe and toxin-free.
After exposure to sun and rain the wood develops a natural silver-grey patina without losing its hard-wearing properties.
