The announcement of our decision to run our own in-house haulage fleet from our Maldon head office (see our earlier News item) is just part of a recent programme of investment for Brooks Bros (UK). Further significant investment across the company’s sites this year include:

At our Skelmersdale site: The latest Weinig 7-head Powermat P1500 moulder (bringing the total number of moulders across our sites to 23). Also, we’re upgrading the extraction plant at Skelmersdale to double the airflow, with installation of the power saving Ecogate system.

At our Nottingham site: A Unosand Multi SL-300 sanding and texturing machine. This versatile machine with 300mm working width, offers high capacity, with three interchangeable heads that can be fitted with either wire, abrasive nylon or sanding and de-knibbing brushes to suit the required application. The Unosand specialises in creating a decorative textured grain finish, which is best suited to flooring and cladding profiles. Combined with the application of stains and paints this process offers customers unusual and attractive decorative finishes.

At our Sewstern site (home grown timbers and kilning): A Hundegger HM-3 planer. This is a specialist 4 side planer for heavy timber up to a maximum cross section of 300mm x 400mm. This acquisition will enable the company to offer customers very large oak beams, accurately planed all around in standard and bespoke sizes.

Also, the Wood-Mizer LT40 Sawmill Series: known as the backbone of sawmills across the globe. Engineered for performance with complete hydraulic log handling, easy-to-use powered saw head controls (forward/reverse & up/down) and SimpleSet Setworks, the LT40 hydraulic portable sawmill provides speed and ease of operation. In the LT40 Wide version distance between rollers reaches 84cm providing an increase of 12cm compared to the standard version. A wider head allows logs of a larger diameter (up to 100cm) to be cut. Ensuring even better blade stability the LT40 Wide is equipped with an upgraded blade guide arm.
